Frequently Asked Questions

How often do I need to visit the dentist?

Generally for general examinations and professional hygiene we recommend 6 monthly visits. However everyone is different and we tailor your dental maintenance that best suits you. Some people may require more visits if they are more at risk of gum disease or tooth decay or whether other health concerns may affect their oral health like diabetes.

Do I need to see a dentist if I just want my teeth cleaned?

At Parklands Dental we highly recommend that you have your teeth and gums checked by the dentist when you see a dental hygienist for your hygiene appointments. We believe prevention is better than cure and having a thorough examination will help prevent future painful and more expensive treatment.

Do you do children’s dentistry at Parklands Dental?

Yes. We see patients of all ages. Our oral health therapists treats all children up to the age of 18. For young new patients who have not been to the dentist we recommend you bring them in for your checkups so that they get familiar with the dentists- we also have free kids days throughout the year where we dress up and make it fun for children while they have a checkup.

When should I take my child to the dentist for the first time?

We recommend young children first visit the dentist at the infant age (between 12- 18 months) with their parents or carer so they get used to the dental environment. Generally this is done with the child sitting on the parents or carer’s lap in a friendly fun manner.

Are you a preferred provider for any health funds?

We are a preferred provider dental practice for Bupa (Platinum), HCF (more for teeth) and NIB (first choice). This means that if you have dental insurance with these health funds you will receive maximum rebates with lower fees for dental treatment. We do however accept all health funds including Medibank Private, Health Partners, Teachers Health, Police Health.

How long does my treatment take?

Usually for a full examination and dental clean at Parklands Dental, it will take between 45 mins to 1 hour. During this visit we answer any questions you may have regarding your oral health as well as assess and personalise your at-home oral health maintenance. For any other treatment our friendly dentists will discuss how long your visits will be.

How long does teeth whitening last and how much does it cost?

We advise depending on the type of whitening you have, (see teeth whitening) it can last from 6 months to 2 years. How white teeth remain can depend on factors such as smoking, coffee and tea or other stain-causing foods. If you do have the at-home teeth whitening kit you may just need to “top up” your whitening every 6-12 months. We have tailored packages for teeth whitening to suit your individual needs which range from $250 to $595.

Is teeth whitening safe?

Teeth whitening is safe if it is done by qualified professionals. Sensitive gels are applied to your teeth during the teeth whitening process and as dentists we are equipped and trained to deliver better results in a safe environment. Beauty salons and other non-qualified places that offer teeth whitening are not scientifically qualified to carry out this procedure.

Do you place dental implants?

Yes. Dr Aashul Patel places most dental implants as well as restores them with a porcelain crown. In some cases that may be a bit trickier we refer to implants specialists in order that we achieve an optimum outcome for you.
